• If problems occur when trying to connect to the vsHome Central Database then the following error message will appear when trying to open the vsHome Software. Assuming the vsHome Central Database is running the first things to check would be that the PC is connected to the Internet and that the correct vshome_db_server.xml configuration file (controlling the IP Address) has been generated and added to the config folder. 

 

 

  • Once these checks have been ruled out then connection to the vsHome Central Database could be blocked by the Firewalls within the Anti-virus Software which is installed on the PC. If this is the case then the Firewall settings will need to be altered to allow the connection which must be done on the machine which has the vsHome Central Database installed and not the machines which are running the vsHome Software itself.

 


  • Begin by accessing the Control Panel which can be done via the Search field located in the bottom left hand corner of the screen as shown above


  • Once the Control Panel window has appear select the System and Security option has shown below:

 


  • Now select the Windows Defender Firewall option has shown below:

 


  • At this point select the Advanced Settings option located on the left hand side of the window as shown below:

 


  • Once the Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security window appears as shown below… first select the Inbound Rules option located on the left hand side of the window and then select the New Rule option located on the right hand side of the Window as shown below:

 


  • The New Inbound Rule Wizard window should then appear… select the Port option and then click Next as shown above.

 

  • Now add 1527 into the Specific local ports field as shown below and then click Next:

 


  • At this point select the Allow the connection option and click Next again as shown below:

 


  • Now leave all 3 options ticked as shown below and click Next:

 


  • Complete the process by giving the Rule a name in the field provided as shown below and clicking on Finish:
