Where to find the report editor

Within a model in Virtual Shopfloor, navigate to ‘Reports’ on the lower toolbar.

Select from the list of available reports on the right hand side which report you’d like to edit.

At the bottom of the right hand panel, click the ‘Editor’ button to begin editing.

This will then bring up the editor pop up window, containing all of the tools you have for editing the reports (shown in the image below).

Editing tools

As you will see in the pop up window, you have a number of different tools at your disposal for editing your report:

● Lines – single straight line or connected straight lines.
● Shapes – circle, rectangle, triangle, regular or free polygon.
● Texts – single line of text or a text block, with different framing options.
● Images – add an image from your files.

Below the tool icons, you also have a range of options for editing multiple drawn objects at the same time. See the ‘Multiple object tools’ section at the end of this article for their uses.

Using the tools

To input one of the different objects on to your report, click the object type from the available tools, and select its position on the report with a single left click.

Note that if you have selected a line, you must also select the end point of the line with another click. You can also click the start point of the line and hold/drag the end of the line out to the desired position.

You must make sure that the correct tool is selected before picking the point on the report where you would like the object to be placed – it’s likely if the object is not appearing on the report as you would expect that you have not selected the tool first.

You will notice that once you have selected the object to draw, it’s associated attributes will be listed below the icons in the pop up window. In the below image you can see the list of available attributes for a line, as an example:

Object parameters

Each individual object type will have its own associated parameters, which you can set in the fields provided. These include properties such as colour, size, thickness of line, rotation and others specific to the object type you’ve selected.

This is also where you can choose to make an item a permanent one.

The values you give for the parameters here will take effect on the next object of the particular type you input – changing these values in the editor window will not affect objects which have already been created.

To edit an object which you have already created, see further in this article under ‘Editing existing objects’.

Permanent items

Selecting the ‘Permanent item’ check box at the top of the list of parameters will mean that this item is created on this report for every contract.

Permanent items

Selecting the ‘Permanent item’ check box at the top of the list of parameters will mean that this item is created on this report for every contract.

This means the object becomes a permanent fixture on your report. Conversely, keeping this unchecked will mean you only edit the report for the current contract you are working within.

You can also choose to make an item which you have already created permanent (or vice versa) by right clicking on the item, clicking ‘Persistence’, and choosing ‘Make permanent’ or ‘Make non-permanent’ depending on the items current state.

Editing existing objects

To edit one of the objects or items which you have already created, right click on the item. A pop up window will show your list of options for editing the object:

  • Persistence – make this a permanent or temporary item on the current report.
  • Sequence – draw this item first or last (i.e. send to back or bring to front).
  • Edit – edit the attributes of the item, scale or resize as applicable.
  • Delete – delete just this item or all permanent or non-permanent items.
  • Copy – duplicate the item or copy to another report.
  • Move – drag the item or move by specific values.

Circle objects have the option to ‘Resize’ under the edit menu, which means you can hold and drag them out to the appropriate size.

The rest of the objects have the option to scale the object by a factor – inputting 2 here would double the size of the object, while 0.5 would half its size.

Multi Object Tools

At the bottom of the editor window, you will see the multi object tools box, shown in the image below.

These tools allow you to edit any number of objects as a group at the same time.

To do so, click the action you’d like to perform first (e.g. move), and begin choosing the items you’d like to affect by left clicking on them.

The text at the very bottom of the screen will keep track of the number of items you have selected (shown here).

Once you have finished selecting all the objects, either double click or hit enter on your keyboard to complete the selection process.

You will then be able to perform the function on the objects (i.e. drag them to a new location, delete them etc).
